Writing Assessment Released Item Book (9-25-07) The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has developed a customized writing assessment that was administered at grades 4, 8, and 10 for the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examination. This Writing Assessment Released Item Book contains a description of the WKCE writing assessment, scoring rubrics, samples of student writing and a discussion of how each essay was scored. |

WKCE Technical Documentation
The technical documentation in this section is designed to provide an overview of the steps taken to develop and validate the WKCE. The Standard Setting Reports provide an overview of the steps taken to establish the cut scores for the examination. Standard setting studies are typically only done when a major revision or restructuring of the examination is completed. The Field Test Technical Report provides an overview of the pilot testing steps that were taken. The Alignment Reports identify the degree to which educational expectations and the examination are in agreement. Alignment studies are typically conducted every few years with the results of these studies laying the foundation for future item development activities. The technical manuals provide an analysis of the entire examination program and the work that was completed during the previous year. Technical manuals are written on a yearly basis and incorporate the test development decisions that have been implemented as a result of the alignment studies, technical advisory committee recommendations, and staff input.
